These are photos from my trip to Sao Tome. I went there with a Swiss herpetologist friend in search of the Sao Tome caecilian, Schistometopum thomense. I landed in Lisbon, Portugal with 12 hours to kill before meeting up with Daniel. I went around town and got hustled (live and learn) although he did show me around town pretty well. We went to a couple of cathedrals and then went to St George's Castle. Daniel and I arrived in Sao Tome early in the morning. We spent the first two days accustoming ourselves to the climate (equatorial). We wandered around town and checked out the beach. We went up to Monte Cafe and camped out for a couple of nights. The first hike there, we found two caecilians as well as a wormsnake, Rhinotyphlops feae. We enlisted the help of some of the boys from the village and they found numerous specimens for us. So many that we didn't even take most of them. They also found some frogs, but I didn't take any photos of those because I don't have a macro setting for the camera. We spent our last full day in the town of Neves where we visited a couple of market places. I thought that Daniel was going to be in big trouble for taking pictures there, but I gave them some money and we were able to escape.
